Currently, a blood collection device that the patients can use themselves, that integrates blood collection, storage as a Dried Blood Spot (DBS), and easy and safe transportation to a lab to yield relevant, accurate
data for diagnostics, surveillance and monitoring does not exist.
We are trying to build a do-it-yourself blood collection device called - OneSpot!!!
It is meant for piercing a finger, collecting 30-40uL of blood, creating a dried blood spot DBS and storing it for 1-2 weeks while maintaining the integrity of blood analytes for diagnostics.
In the past few months we have also developed a device that can convert and store larger amounts of blood (closer to half an mL or 500uL) as a DBS so that multiple tests can be run on the same spot.
