You Ask — We Answer
COMMON QUESTIONS
DO YOU OFFER PHYSICIAN CONSULTATIONS?
Yes! After your test, we have doctors who can counsel you about the results in a non-judgemental and compassionate manner. Consultations with an HIV or viral hepatitis specialist are included for a small additional charge.
I HAD AN UNSAFE EXPOSURE RECENTLY. DO I HAVE HIV?
Whether or not you have HIV is influenced by the type of exposure you have had.
You can learn more about your risk and the types of tests to conclusively show if you are infected here, here and here.
The tests used to diagnose HIV are RNA PCR (100% sensitivity; can be done as early as 14 days after exposure; has a chance of false positives); HIV 4th generation ELISA (˜100% sensitivity; however will not be useful if done within the first 3-4 weeks of exposure); HIV rapid test (98-99% sensitive; cannot be done until 4-6 weeks after exposure). Learn more about tests and their accuracy here.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY HIV OR HCV OR HBV TREATMENT IS WORKING?
A viral load test can answer this. If your medications are working, your viral load (for HIV, HCV or HBV) should be undetectable. Come, schedule your next viral load test with us! We promise prompt results and you can discuss your results with an in-house physician.
